Is it too soon?…

I’m not trying to rush things but have you thought about your health goals and New Year’s resolutions for 2010?

I am offering a health and wellness coaching program by conference call and email starting in just a few weeks (January 5). You will be able to discuss your health and wellness issues and concerns and together we will develop a plan for you to reach your individual goals for Mind, Body and Spirit.

Here are the details for the Group Coaching:

  1. This is a small group conference call twice per month with email backup in between. The group size will be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 people per group.
  2. There will be two different groups to choose from. A daytime group and an evening group.
  3. One group will meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00pm-7:50pm.
  4. The other group will meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 2:00pm-2:50pm
  5. The groups will meet twice per month over the telephone in a conference call. Calls will be recorded and you will have access to all calls. There will also be email access to follow up and make comments.
  6. You will be required to make a commitment of three months (6 meetings) to ensure the best results.

The investment is $600 per person for all three months and can be billed to your credit card in 3 payments of $200. This is a savings of $300 over individual sessions plus you receive emails once per week as an additional bonus.

Why three months?
Because it takes time for new thoughts and habits to “sink in and set”. You can read an article or even a book. You can take a weekend seminar or workshop. You can be in therapy for months or years. All are viable choices. All have produced results. So what are the flaws? Why don’t people change when they are “gung ho” and put out all that effort to buy that book?

Simple. People change when they are ready to change. So how do you get ready? You must take that first step, for sure. Changing your thoughts and habits happens a little at a time, though. You have to make a starting point and move forward from there. You have to have direction and tools and support and practice for changes to “take hold”. Time plays a part. So does showing up for duty. Three months is enough to get you settled in on your goals and gives you time to practice your new thoughts and habits. Of course, it’s up to you after that.

Life Coaching

image goalLife coaching is a practice with the aim of helping clients determine and achieve personal goals in the most timely fashion. I use multiple methods that help you with the process of setting and reaching personal, professional, and transformational goals. Coaching is not targeted at psychological illness and I am not a therapist.

Life coaching draws inspiration from disciplines including sociology, psychology, positive adult development, career counseling, mentoring, health counseling and other types of counseling. I may apply mentoring, values assessment, behavior modification, behavior modeling, goal-setting and other techniques in helping you reach your goals.

A note on credentialing. Government bodies have not found it necessary to provide a regulatory standard for life coaching, nor does any state body govern the education or training standard for the life coaching industry; the title of “coach” can be used by any service provider. Multiple coaching schools and training programs are available, allowing for many options (and sometimes causing confusion) when an individual decides to gain “certification” or a “credential” as they apply to the coaching industry. Multiple certificates and credential designations are available within the industry. I myself have a doctorate in clinical religious counseling as well as other certifications and a long career as a Registered Nurse.

Some assert that life coaching is akin to psychotherapy but without restrictions, oversight or regulation. The State legislature of Colorado, after holding a hearing on such concerns, disagreed, asserting that coaching is unlike therapy because it does not focus on examining nor diagnosing the past. Instead coaching focuses on effecting change in a client’s current and future behavior. Additionally, life coaching does not delve into diagnosing mental illness or dysfunction. The focus is on getting where you want to be quickly.

My focus for you is to move you forward to a complete life that is what YOU want it to be. Without minimizing your past, today is the day in which we live and where our focus must be.

According to a survey of coaching clients, “sounding board” and “motivator” were the top roles selected for a coach. Clients are looking for a coach “to really listen to them and give honest feedback.”

Business coaching provides positive support and positive feedback while offering occasional advice to an individual or group in order to help them recognize ways in which they can improve the effectiveness of their business and general work environment. Personal coaching

Personal coaching is a relationship which is designed and defined in a relationship agreement between a client and a coach. It is based on the client’s expressed interests, goals and objectives.

I use inquiry, reflection, requests and discussion to help you identify personal and/or business and/or relationship goals, develop strategies, relationships and action plans intended to achieve those goals. I provide a place for you to be held accountable to yourself by monitoring your progress towards implementation of your action plan. Together, we design goals which are reachable and measurable and evolve and modify the plan to best suit your needs. I provide feedback for you by sharing caring and unbiased perspectives. I teach specific tools and skills to empower you to reach your goals.

You as a client are responsible for you own achievements and success. You take action, and I assist you, but you are ultimately the one who decides whether, or how much, change takes place. Therefore, I cannot and do not promise that you will take any specific action or attain specific goals. You can be assured that I will help you as best I can.

Health coaching

In the world of health and wellness, a health coach is an emerging new role. Health coaching is becoming recognized as a new way to help individuals “manage” their illnesses and conditions, especially those of a chronic nature. In both sports and health, a “coach” is a person who observes, gives objective feedback, teaches, helps to develop a plan of action and holds another responsible for their actions and commitments. I will use special techniques, personal experience, expertise and encouragement to assist you in bringing your behavioral changes about.
